Shadows and Highlights

I'm trying to excercise better use of shadows and highlights in my photographs. I've come up with a few different techniques using layers and channel mixers and what not but I'm still experimenting.

This statue is located in the Guild Inn in Scarborough. The grounds were once part of a exorbetantly wealthy hotel resort but over the years the hotel became bankrupt and the grounds are now owned by the City of Toronto as a public park. There are many statues, sculptures and works of modern art on the grounds as well as a small Roman Amphitheatre that has even been used in Hollywood movies such as The Skulls.
